The Newcom Student Union project is proceeding very quickly. The construction schedule established by Excel Constructors has provided for the building occupants to move back into the building during the week of Graceland’s spring break. Plans for that move are being finalized. It is expected that students will be able to utilize the building beginning March 16. The schedule is aggressive and much work remains, but much is in process and has been completed.

  • Metal stud wall framing is virtually complete.
  • A significant percent of the sheetrock has been hung with much of the taping and finishing completed.
  • Painting of ceilings and walls is set to begin Jan. 27.
  • The kitchen walk-in cooler/freezer is installed.
  • The kitchen hoods and Ansul fire suppression systems are being installed with expected completion by Jan. 27.
  • Floor and wall tile is virtually complete in the new men’s and women’s restrooms.
  • Drop ceiling grids are being installed in some locations.
  • Exterior glass systems are installed with the exception of the new main entry.
  • Plumbing is virtually complete with the exception of fixture installations.
  • HVAC equipment and sheet metal installations are virtually complete.
  • Electrical feeder conduit and wire is complete with branch wiring at nearly 90% complete.
  • Exterior brick masonry is approximately 70% complete with continued progress somewhat dependent on weather conditions.
