In-Person Counseling

Graceland provides in-person counseling for students on the Lamoni campus. All mental health services are confidential and free of charge. After an initial consultation to determine the most appropriate counseling method, you may receive individual counseling, group counseling, or a combination of individual and group counseling.

Initial Consultation:
To set up an initial consultation, please contact Lisa Prosser-Dodds at 641.784.5463 or lisapd1@graceland.edu. The consultation provides a chance for you to discuss your concerns. Based on this initial meeting, you and the Mental Health Specialist may agree that individual counseling or group counseling would best suit your needs.  If you and the Mental Health Specialist agree that individual or group counseling is the right choice, they will gather the necessary information from you so that you can begin therapy.

Individual counseling is a therapeutic process where Graceland’ professional Mental Health Specialist helps you address emotional and psychological challenges, provides support, coping strategies, and guidance to improve your overall mental well-being and help you navigate your personal difficulties.

In Group counseling, the Mental Health Specialist will facilitate the group. Sessions are designed to help you understand yourself and to help you connect to fellow students who are facing similar issues. Usually, these sessions include students who have concerns about relationships with others; students who feel different from their peers because of the type of problem currently being experienced; and/or students who make choices based on what others want or expect instead of evaluating decisions for themselves.
