Graceland alum Nathaniel Myer `10

Major: Business Administration

Accomplishment: Member of the team selected as winner of the Networked Society Cities contest

Graceland University alumnus Nathaniel Myer recently found himself in Miami, the site of the finals in a world-wide case study competition, impressing 60 of the world’s top ICT executives as he, along with two teammates from IAE Universidad Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were selected as the winners of the Networked Society Cities contest.

Myer, known as “Nate” during his time at Graceland, is a 2010 GU graduate who is no stranger to success in business competitions. He spent three years on Graceland’s successful SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) team, now known as Enactus. It is this experience, along with his mentors and instructors from Graceland, he credits for his recent success.

“By simply reapplying the Graceland Enactus presentation formula, [my team] took first place in Ericsson's worldwide MBA Case Competition,” explained Nate. “The bar of professionalism in the GU Enactus program is so high that, if you choose to follow those values when you graduate, you will standout.” And standout, he has.

Nate notes that with the encouragement of Justin Akers, Director of Enactus at Graceland University, and Max Pitt, Assistant Professor of Business at Graceland University and whom Nate still considers a great mentor, his experience at Graceland, beginning with the Outreach International's winter term to Nicaragua, “has turned me into a bilingual MBA student from the top school in Argentina.” “Whenever you have an intimate community that surrounds you and believes in you, the blessings begin to add up. My GU roots empowered me to win Ericsson's worldwide MBA case competition. There is no doubt in my mind about that.”

Nate majored in business administration with a concentration in finance and minors in Spanish and economics while at Graceland. After he completes his MBA, Nate will spend three months in an exchange MBA program in Hamburg, Germany and then expects to gain 7-10 years working experience in large multinational companies, top in their industry, before seeking employment with his family business, Universal Electric Corporation, of which he will be the fourth generation.

Nate is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and a member of the Community of Christ. He is the son of Graceland alumna, Janet (Ross) Myer and grandson of former Graceland University Board of Trustees member, Vicki Ross. He has an aunt, Julie Ross, and two uncles, Joel and Steve Ross who also graduated from Graceland.
