Adjunct Voice Professor

Stephen Cunningham, DMA, bass-baritone, is an adjunct voice professor for Graceland University’s Division of Visual and Performing Arts. He is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, and has sung with Minnesota Opera, Florentine Opera, Kenwood Symphony Orchestra, La Musica Lirica, Opera Orvieto, and Mill City Summer Opera.

Stephen premiered the dual role of Prince Abdul and the Captain in Sister Carrie with Florentine Opera and Secretary of Defense in The Manchurian Candidate. He has also performed the roles of The Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Jimmy in Mahagonny Songspiel, Don Annibale in Il Campanello, Escamillo in Carmen, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, and Commendatore in Don Giovanni, as well as the titles roles in Falstaff, Gianni Schicchi and Le Nozze di Figaro. Stephen has understudied the roles of Sulpice and Hortensius in La fille du regiment and Scarpia in Tosca.

Stephen has workshopped numerous new operas including The Shining, The Manchurian Candidate, Memory Boy and Doubt with Minnesota Opera, Sister Carrie and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead with the University of North Texas, and Sister Carrie with Florentine Opera.

Currently, Stephen is ABD in his doctoral studies at the University of Minnesota and holds a performance and pedagogy degree from Oklahoma State University and a performance degree from the University of North Texas.
