A natural progression for Dr. Leialoha-Hartstack transitioned to teaching K-12 special education with a focus on those students with behavioral issues. The great portion of her teaching career has been as a secondary special education teacher prior to joining the Graceland faculty.

Of the 7 emphases of Graceland’s Edmund J. Gleazer School of Education M.Ed. program, Dr. Leialoha-Hartstack teaches courses in Special Education, Instructional Leadership and Differentiated Instruction.

Dr. Leialoha-Hartstack has been a consultant to inner city high schools through compliance review in special education, a grant reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education for Native Hawaiians, and a volunteer State of Iowa Civil Rights Investigator.

Married with two grown sons, Dr. Leialoha-Hartstack’s favorite places are her native Hawaii and Minnesota. She enjoys her pets and lives on a farm in southwestern Iowa.
