Assistant to Associate Professor of Communication

The Humanities Department at Graceland University invites applications for a Communications tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor located on the Lamoni Campus. This position seeks an experienced faculty member with administrative experience who can serve as Department Chair. This is a 9-month contract with some summer duties and the position begins August 2023. Candidates will have a Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, or related field by August 2023.

Graceland University’s Lamoni Campus is a traditional residential liberal arts campus. The department is looking for candidates who have demonstrable administrative experience and can teach a variety of courses in the communication studies discipline. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching success in two or more of the following areas: advocacy communication, digital humanities, environmental communication, intercultural communication, mass media, or argumentation and debate. The 4/4 teaching load also includes general education courses in Public Speaking with the possibility to teach composition and argumentation classes. Candidates should highlight their experiences teaching these Humanities core courses in their application as well as their administrative
experience. Experience with Debate is a plus.

Our unique department prioritizes developing innovative, interdisciplinary academic programs in the areas of digital content creation, social change and advocacy, and environmental sustainability. Demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to undergraduate teaching and service is required. Our programs are designed to give students historical and theoretical foundations of Communication and other Humanities disciplines while cultivating practical skillsets which make our graduates extremely marketable and successful change-makers and storytellers in society. The search committee will prioritize candidates with administrative experience who display an interest in innovative programmatic designs within the Humanities disciplines and who have a passion for collaborating with other faculty members to grow these programs.

Graceland University is a small comprehensive university with two campuses. The Lamoni Campus is a small, private liberal arts university, rurally located within an hour from Des Moines and two hours from Kansas City and the Independence Campus is in urban Independence, Missouri that focuses on select undergraduate majors and online graduate programs.
