Graceland students perform a modern production of Sophocles' Antigone

Graceland University’s theatre department announced that during the 2020-21 academic year, all performances will be offered to audiences free of charge. Limited tickets will be available to select audiences and all performances will be recorded and available on Graceland’s YouTube channel for a limited period of time.

“We are extremely proud of our visual and performing arts at Graceland. It is integral to our vibrant liberal arts curriculum and we are so fortunate that students have access to perform in the state-of-the-art Shaw Center,” said Graceland President Patricia H. Draves.

The theatre department will put on two major productions during the fall 2020 semester – Sophocles’ Greek tragedy Antigone and Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus. Antigone will be available for viewing online from Oct. 2-11, 2020, while Men in Boats will be available from Nov. 19-29, 2020.

In addition, Graceland’s music department will provide live streaming for recitals and performances throughout the year. A schedule of events is available on graceland.edu.

Draves acknowledged the Shaw Family Foundation’s longtime support of Graceland’s visual and performing arts programs. “The Shaw Family Foundation’s support of the arts at our university is a testament to JR and Carol Shaw’s legacy of generosity,” she said.

Because of the global pandemic, in-person seating will be limited for each performance, so Graceland will provide streaming service for viewers who are unable to attend at graceland.edu/live.
