CCSC programming contest held at Graceland University

On April 6, Graceland University’s Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) program held the Consortium for Computer Science in Colleges (CCSC) programming contest on the Lamoni campus for all colleges in the surrounding areas.

Graceland’s team, the “Sauce Bosses,” placed second out of fourteen teams that attended the competition. This team was made up of three students: Senior CSIT& Data Analytics Major: Adam Sherer, Senior CSIT& Data Analytics Major: Jace Elliott and Junior CSIT& Data Analytics Major: Jack Flickinger. They were coached by Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Data Science Arup Ghosh. Professor Ghosh worked with all three of these amazing young men and helped prepare them and achieve this amazing accomplishment. The team also received a $150 prize for their second-place finish.

In this competition, you must answer algorithmic problems and solve them by writing a program. There were eight problems this year that were exceptionally more difficult than in the past. Being able to answer one answer correctly in what an average team can do, our Graceland “Sauce Bosses” answered two of these very difficult algorithmic problems correctly which led to this outstanding second-place finish.

“We have had teams in years past attend and compete in this event but, this second-place finish from this team was one of the best finishes in recent Graceland history. This is a wonderful honor for our university and a phenomenal outlook on what our Computer Science and Data Science department have to offer.”  Professor for Information Technology Kevin Brunner.
