Bracing For Impact

In all campus directions, crews and teams are putting on finishing touches to the grounds, facilities and decorations for the upcoming SPECTACULAR summer camp, displaying “Hope in Action” way before this year’s theme kicks off.

From July 12-19, young campers and their delegation leaders are taking over campus to turn it into a colorfully bustling exploration park of happy gatherings, fun activities and serious friendly competition, artistic expression, and inspiring devotion.

Sponsored by the Community of Christ and hosted by Graceland University, “SPEC” is a Lamoni summer institution: an annual camp for high school kids that provides a closed, safe space away from their usual environments, daily routines and pressures.

The visiting delegations are traveling to Lamoni from across the country and around the globe. The mission of SPECTACULAR is to create a Christ-centered community that encourages young people to discover God, their inherent worth, and their giftedness.

Some of them will be returning to campus as Graceland students with a passion to serve in community: one SPEC highlight is the award ceremony for scholarships.
