Assistant Professor of Sport Management
Dr. Sehwan Kim is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Graceland University’s C.H. Sandage School of Business. He earned his PhD in Sport Management and Policy from the University of Georgia, where his dissertation examined stakeholders’ perspectives on athlete naturalization.

Dr. Kim teaches courses including Sport Policy and Governance, Legal and Ethical Issues in Sport, Sport Facility & Event Management, Social Issues in Sport, and Strategic Sales Management. His teaching philosophy centers on experiential learning—challenging students to apply strategy, leadership, and analytical thinking through simulations, competitions, and industry-connected projects that mirror real-world sport environments.

Dr. Kim’s research explores how sport reflects and shapes culture. His scholarly work examines sport migration, media, globalization, athlete identity, and action sports communities, with publications in journals such as Sport in Society, Journal of Global Sport Management, World Leisure Journal, and The International Journal of the History of Sport. Through this work, he encourages students to think beyond the game—understanding sport not only as an industry, but also as a powerful social and cultural force.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Kim actively mentors students through national competitions such as the National Collegiate Sport Sales Competition and the National Collegiate Sales Competition, helping students translate classroom knowledge into professional performance. He is also engaged in university service, advising the Sport Management Club and contributing to institutional retention initiatives. His goal is to develop industry-ready sport management leaders who think critically, act strategically, and are prepared to make an immediate impact in the sport industry.
