John Godfrey currently serves as the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students at Graceland University. In this role, he oversees student government, residential life, campus ministries, wellness initiatives, and campus activities, working closely with academic, athletic, and campus administrators to partners in aligning student success with the university’s mission. John is deeply committed to creating a culture of radical belonging, where every student feels safe, supported, and valued within the Graceland community.
Before returning to his alma mater, John held several leadership roles in Residential Life and Student Housing, university operations, and facilities management, most recently serving at San Diego State University. Over the course of his career, he has supported $100m+ housing operations, led complex construction and IT projects, and provided strategic oversight for large teams. John brings both academic depth and practical experience to his work in higher education. John holds advanced degrees in Nonprofit Leadership and Management and a second degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. John is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Fresno State University.
Outside of his professional achievements, John enjoys traveling with his partner, Tammy, and their two children, Sarah and Jackson. Together, they explore new places and create lasting memories through shared adventures and food. John also continues to give back to his community through his long-standing involvement with Camp Moja, a camp for individuals with developmental disabilities, where he has served in leadership roles for more than two decades.
