Stassi Cramm, PhD, Prophet-President of the Community of Christ and a distinguished Graceland alumna will share with students on April 26, 2026.
LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University is proud to announce that Stassi Cramm, Ph.D., Prophet-President of the Community of Christ and a distinguished Graceland alumna, will serve as the keynote speaker for the University’s 2026 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the Morden Center.
A lifelong leader in ministry, service, and global engagement, Cramm brings a unique and deeply aligned perspective to Graceland’s graduating class—one grounded in purpose, discernment, and the call to lead in times of change.
“Dr. Cramm embodies the very essence of Graceland’s commitment to Transformational Leadership,” said Joel Shrock, president of Graceland University. “Her life’s work reflects a deep belief in developing leaders who serve others, respond to the needs of their communities, and move forward with courage and conviction. We are honored to welcome her back to campus at such a meaningful moment for our graduates and for the University.”
Cramm currently serves as Prophet-President of the Community of Christ, becoming the first woman to hold the denomination’s highest leadership role. Her decades of service span continents and communities, including leadership positions as counselor to the First Presidency, presiding bishop, apostle, and administrator for the Southwest Pacific Mission Field. Her ministry has taken her across the United States and around the world, including service in Africa, India, Europe, Australia, and the Pacific.
Before entering full-time ministry, Cramm worked as a civilian flight-test engineer for the U.S. Air Force—an early reflection of the intellectual rigor and sense of purpose that have defined her career.
Her connection to Graceland is both deep and enduring. Cramm served as Dean of the Community of Christ Seminary at Graceland and was a member of the University’s Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2024. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to developing leaders and helping individuals discern how their unique gifts can serve a greater purpose.
“I have always been drawn to helping people discover how their giftedness can serve something larger than themselves,” Cramm said. “That sense of calling and purpose is something I see reflected in Graceland students, and it is an honor to share in this important milestone with them.”
Cramm is widely recognized for her signature valediction, “Onward,” a phrase that reflects her leadership philosophy and faith. Rooted in the belief that the future is shaped by faithful action in the present, “Onward” has become both a personal and communal call to move forward with intention and hope.
As Graceland continues its Our Time to Lead initiative—focused on strengthening academic programs, enhancing the student experience, and positioning the University for long-term sustainability—Cramm’s message is expected to resonate deeply with graduates stepping into a rapidly changing world.
“Commencement is a defining moment—not just a celebration of achievement, but a calling to lead,” Shrock added. “Dr. Cramm’s voice will challenge and inspire our graduates to move forward with purpose, grounded in values that matter.”
The 2026 Commencement Ceremony will celebrate the achievements of undergraduate and graduate students from across Graceland’s programs and campuses, including Lamoni and Independence.
