Anthony Chvala-Smith, PhD., Associate Professor of Religion and Paul E. Morden Seminary Chair of Religion, recently shared a paper titled “Racism and the Moral Logic of the Incarnation” at the annual August Zoom retreat of the Faith and Order Convening Table of the National Council of Churches. His paper argues that Christian theology’s classical doctrine of the incarnation contains a moral imperative to churches to practice anti-racism. This paper is one contribution to the NCC’s larger ongoing initiative to confront and end racism in American life. Community of Christ, which Dr. Chvala-Smith represents on the Faith and Order Convening Table, is one of 38 member communions of the NCC.
