Graceland Athletic Director Brady McKillip announced the hiring of Todd Lorensen as the next Men’s Basketball coach, effective immediately. Lorensen replaces Taylor Langley, who stepped away as head coach last week.

“It was immediately clear to us that Todd’s coaching ability is significant, and we are excited about the future,” said McKillip. “His coaching experiences, successes record speak for themselves. He has been a fantastic member of the Graceland coaching staff, and we are looking forward to his leadership on the sidelines for the entire men’s basketball program.”

Lorensen has served as Assistant Coach at Graceland since last year. He brought with him extensive coaching experience prior to joining the Yellowjackets, with head coaching experience at Mount Marty, Buena Vista, Iowa Wesleyan, and several years as the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, where he led the team to a historic turnaround over three years, including a NJCAA National Championship in 2017, which earned him NJCAA National Coach of the Year honors from Spalding, NABC, and Hoopdirt. Over four years, the team had a 113-25 record.

Lorensen has been active on the recruiting trail at Graceland already and transitions to the head coaching role with the strong support of the university and administration.

“In my time at Graceland, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for this institution and the leadership we have throughout campus,” Lorensen said. “I’d like to thank President Draves, her administration team, and Athletic Director Brady McKillip for trusting me to lead this program moving forward. I’m excited for this new opportunity to build on the strong foundation, and I can’t wait to get our players back to campus for this year and season.”

“Todd is a national-level coach who has the proven ability to create teams and cultures that consistently compete at a high level. Graceland means a lot to my family and me.  We couldn’t be more excited that Todd will be the next head men’s basketball coach of the Yellowjackets!”
