Graceland University Assistant Professor of Spanish Jonathan Montalvo Roman, PhD, attended the 2019 Association for Jotería Arts, Activism and Scholarship (AJAAS) Conference held at Portland State University from Oct. 10-12. The AJAAS conference nurtures queer Latinx, Chicanax and Indigenous individuals and communities through practices that recognize the importance of linking art, activism and scholarship. Montalvo Roman gave a presentation about the analogies used by Afro-Puerto Rican author Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro to denounce oppression and colonialism in the Puerto Rican context.
