John Franklin, Graceland University professor, of Social Science
John Franklin, Graceland University professor, of Social Science attended the 59th Annual Missouri Valley History Conference in Omaha, Nebraska, from March 3-5. This year’s conference theme was “Sacred Sites, Holy Places.” While at the conference, John chaired a paper session for Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society. John attended a number of presentations at the conference. Of particular note was a session “Narrative Space as the Sites and Places for Conflict,” which featured an intriguing presentation from LTC Brian Steed of the US Army Command and General Staff College titled, “Sacred Speech, Holly Past: How ISIS Maneuvers in the Narrative Space.” John also attended the roundtable “Celebrating the Nation’s Backyard” dealing with National Parks as sacred space, which provided a number of ideas for incorporating the national parks and monuments into courses.
