Graceland University is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Matney as the university’s new Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Matney brings over 20 years of experience in finance to Graceland, having most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer at the National Advisors Trust Company. She graduated from Missouri Western University with bachelor’s degrees in business administration, management, and finance before completing her master’s degree in economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Graceland President Patricia H. Draves said, “Jennifer quickly set herself apart in our search. Her thoughtful approach to financial planning and her obvious passion for service made her a clear leader. I am grateful for the leadership of the search committee led by incoming Interim President Joel Shrock and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Kristi Hettrick for their excellent work in bringing Jennifer to Graceland.”

As Graceland’s CFO, Matney is responsible for accounting, budget management, fiscal operations, facilities, and human resources. She will bring her expertise to facilitate business process improvement, develop strategic financial plans, oversee all university financial matters, and advise the president and board of trustees regarding all areas under her purview.

Matney shared her enthusiasm about joining Graceland, saying, “I am excited about the opportunity to bring my financial experience to Graceland. As a first-generation college graduate, I value higher education and the doors that open as a result.”

She was selected after a comprehensive search and met with leaders across the institution. “It was clear from my interactions with them that they are committed to their mission and value an entrepreneurial mindset, which closely aligns with my own passion for nonprofit work and community engagement. I look forward to working with the executive council toward the strategic initiatives set by the Blue, Gold & Bold plan,” Matney said.

Matney begins her role May 1 and will spend time on both of Graceland’s campuses in Lamoni, Iowa, and Independence, Mo.
