Artist rendering of a map

An art exhibit now showing in the Constance Gallery in The Helene Center for the Visual Arts combines two elements that rarely go together: electronic circuitry and maps. Tiberiu Chelcea was born in Romania and came to United States to pursue a PhD in Computer Science. He has received several awards, fellowships and patents in the field of electronic and digital design, which continues to be a major source of inspiration for his art.

The prints in “Maps” start with the shapes and contours of printed circuit boards and other electronic components. Chelcea then superimposes maps on the images. The result “blurs the boundaries between the man-made and the natural, reimagining the tiniest of engineered components as vast spaces.”

The exhibit will be open 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday-Friday until Feb. 12.
