Graceland University Assistant Professor of Theology and Scripture Anthony Chvala-Smith, PhD, presented a paper at the 46th annual conference of the John Whitmer Historical Association in Blue Springs, Missouri, Sept. 20-22. The paper was entitled, “Ecclesiological Bombshells: Schneebeck’s Body of Christ (1968), Landon & Smith’s For What Purpose Assembled? (1969), and the Unmaking and Remaking of a Denomination.” The paper explores the critical role two books play in the transformation of the Community of Christ’s identity into a church committed to the pursuit of peace and social justice.
