What exactly is an Alumni Swarm? Quite simply, it's a chance to party with former Graceland University classmates and acquaintances! Typically, the event will include GU video on the "big screen," an update on what's going on at Graceland, and a chance to test your knowledge during a GU Trivia Contest. Additionally, there will be plenty of GU memorabilia straight from the bookstore for purchasing.
Graceland University's Alumni Swarm - a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and hear all about the very latest and greatest things happening at Graceland. Watch for one coming near you. Contact Alumni Programs if you would be interested in hosting an Alumni Swarm in your area.

Everyone had a great time at the Alumni Swarm in the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. There was plenty of great food, then an exciting Iowa Wild hockey game with the Graceland Gadets Dance Team performing on center ice after the first period. It was great to have a Graceland crowd to cheer them on! Thanks to all who came for the food, the fellowship and the Gadets on ice!

Thanks to all who attended the Graceland Alumni Swarm party on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The Prairie Hills Community of Christ provided an awesome venue, and it was a special night to once again see former Graceland President Joe Hanna and his wife Sharon. Associate Director of Development Pam Combs enjoyed meeting many of the folks she will get to know in her new role. Alumni Programs Director Paul Davis played emcee and showcased all of the completed construction projects on the Lamoni campus. Graceland Alumni and Friends were tested on their knowledge of GU history and won prizes straight from the campus bookstore. Again, thanks to Omaha for a job well done!

Many thanks to Bob and Jan Hawley (’77) for hosting a fantastic alumni swarm in western Nebraska! The Graceland SIFE team (Students in Free Enterprise) finished in the Top 8 at the national competition in Kansas City, Missouri! The Alumni Programs Office hosted the squad along with Alumni and Friends at a special reception on the eve of their competition. Those who came got to see the team’s presentation and helped make it even sharper with their suggestions. Thanks to all of our loyal Graceland and SIFE supporters for showing our students just how much you care!

The nasty weather forecast of high winds and possible tornadoes did not stop the party from going on in Olathe! Graceland President John Sellars, along with Alumni Programs Director Paul Davis and Director of Development Rick Isham, hosted an Alumni Swarm at the Olathe, Kansas Community of Christ on Saturday, April 14. GU Alumni and Friends were treated to cake, fruit and veggie trays, along with punch and coffee. Dr. Sellars delivered a presentation that covered both completed and ongoing campus building projects. He also fielded questions from the inquisitive group about other things going on at both the Lamoni and Independence campuses.
GU says thanks to the Olathe congregation for providing such a great venue and enthusiastic response.
Long Beach & Escondido, California
December 2 & 3, 2011
The powerful Santa Ana winds were not enough to sideline the Graceland Alumni Programs and Development staffs from putting on Alumni Swarms at two locations in Southern California. Major thanks are in order to Tim Silegy (’86) who hosted the Alumni Swarm at his home in Long Beach while Steve (’70) and Eleni Tignor provided a great spread for a get together in Escondido. Both “swarms” enjoyed hearing from Graceland President John Sellars as he detailed the various construction projects going on in Lamoni. Sellars also fielded a variety of questions regarding the academic excellence at GU. Alumni Programs director Paul Davis brought the alumni up to speed on the various perks all Gracelanders can enjoy long after their time on “the hill.” What a great time, and yes . . . some were better than others at Graceland trivia with plenty of memorabilia freebies handed out to those who really knew their stuff.

It was a great time visiting with alumni and friends at our Alumni Swarm in Des Moines! All three Graceland choral groups performed at the Grace United Methodist Church. Right after the concert, everybody got together for scrumptious cake, coffee and punch. Heck, we even invited the members of Grace United to join us for the fun. Job well done by our students, and it was great to see many of you supporting our students.
Host a Swarm
If you would like to host an Alumni Swarm in your area, just let us know. We typically like to hold these events on Saturday nights, either in your home or a comfortable church location. Graceland will pay for the event and help drive attendance. Ten couples or more would be a great crowd turnout to shoot for.
