Graceland University's symphonic band is comprised of wind and percussion students that includes both music majors and non-music majors. We are guided by a philosophy that seeks to expose our students to fine quality music and programming that embraces humanity. We believe that music touches on humanistic qualities such as compassion, empathy, kindness and aesthetics.
Through the sharing of this diverse repertoire, students are exposed to a wide variety of compositional techniques and a combination of cognitive, affective, intellectual and expressive possibilities that challenge them to become future thinkers and enablers.
The symphonic band seeks to diversify programming to include female composers and composers of color. We also work with students in the region as part of our efforts to give back to the community.
