A 1985 Graceland graduate, Sherman earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, then continued on at Eastern Kentucky University, where he earned his masters of science degree in Physical Education with a Sports Administration emphasis in 1987.

During his early career, Sherman pursued collegiate volleyball coaching opportunities working in several places before returning to Graceland in 1993 to assume head coaching duties of the men’s volleyball program. During his 11 year tenure as head coach, Sherman led his squad to the national championship at the collegiate club national championships in 1998, two runner up finishes in 1994 and 1999 and multiple top 10 finishes.  During this time, Sherman also served as faculty member in the Health and Movement Science division, serving as program manager of the Wellness Management major.

Career change happened in 2004, when Sherman was offered and accepted a move into institutional advancement, serving as a major gift officer for Graceland. His love for Graceland, deep knowledge of the institution’s history and a strong desire to move the university forward led to his decision to make this career change.  Sherman’s commitment to Graceland, his diverse experience as a student, coach, faculty member and development officer continues to be a solid foundation to continue doing his part to advance Graceland’s mission of supporting students in leading meaningful and productive lives.

"Graceland has impacted my life in so many positive ways and I want to do my part in allowing it to be of the same impact for our current students."
