Temporary Male Residence Hall Director

Graceland University is seeking a temporary full-time Men’s Residence Hall Director (RHD) on the Lamoni, IA campus, starting with the Spring 2019 semester.  The Lamoni campus is home to a community rich in cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity.  Located in a beautiful and peaceful rural setting in “the middle of everywhere,” the average student’s home town distance is over 400 miles away.

The Temporary Full-Time Residence Hall Director role is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member responsible for the daily operations of an average of a 250 bed residence hall(s), satellite housing, or on-campus apartments. The RHD directly supervises an average of five House Presidents, a student Assistant to the Hall Director and front desk operation, and serves as an advisor to the student conduct board.  Work will begin January 2, 2019, and continue for a minimum of the Spring 2019 semester, and may be needed for the Fall 2019 semester as well.

The Residence Hall Director is first and foremost a residential educator, responsible for creating and sustaining a community of learners who are challenged to grow in all aspects of their college experience.  The RHD is charged with developing a community which promotes engagement, learning, respect for diversity, and student success.  The RHD will play an integral role in developing and implementing our residential curriculum.  On-call responsibilities are shared for 650-800 residents.

Due to the high level of collaboration within Student Life, collateral assignments in support of other Student Life functions are common.  This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual who is energized by the opportunity to grow in the field of Student Affairs and to contribute to a successful Residence Life department focused on student learning and achievement.

RHD's must reside in an on-campus apartment throughout the term of their appointment.  A meal plan is provided to allow the RHD to be visible in the community, eat meals in dining services locations, attend meetings and events regularly, and be able to respond to emergencies within the residential community.
