Graceland University is a private, non-profit institution of approximately 1,450 undergraduate and graduate students. Founded in 1895 with the support of the Community of Christ, it is recognized by the Princeton Review as “Best in the Midwest” since 2012. Graceland University is seeking an innovative candidate for a full-time (12-month) Core faculty appointment with clinical rank commensurate with experience for its developing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Independence, Missouri. The preferred content area focus is anatomy, geriatrics, and neuroscience. Other content areas supported by expertise will be considered.
Other opportunities could be in coordinating the admissions initiatives for the DPT program in collaboration with staff and other faculty. This would require experience or a strong desire to be involved in student recruitment, application, and admissions processes for the program. Other essential duties included with this opportunity are overseeing and updating student recruitment materials and admissions policies and procedures, chairing the Admissions Committee, and leading the faculty in a transparent admissions process that guarantees nondiscrimination and an equal opportunity for all applicants. Under the general direction of the DPT Program Director, core faculty will cultivate professional growth in the administration of a physical therapy entry-level education program and as a teacher and scholar while performing service to the department, college, university, and community. They will engage in scholarship activities, with priority for those which engage and enhance the academic and professional development of students. They are required to maintain competence in the academic field by remaining current in their own and related disciplines and in the most effective hybrid instructional methods. They will demonstrate effectiveness in the synthesis, interpretation, and communication of new knowledge. In addition to instructional and scholarly activity, this individual will participate in activities consistent with the policies of Graceland University. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position with instructional terms in spring, summer, and fall. Regular travel to the state of Missouri or Kansas is required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) from an accredited university with ABPTS board certification or advanced professional certification
- Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for teaching in physical therapy education
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting students and the profession of physical therapy
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Kansas
- Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels
Desired Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in physical therapy or related field
- Academic experience in a DPT entry-level educational program specific to this content area
- Knowledge and experience in a hybrid educational model or development plan to improve skillset in distance learning/hybrid instruction
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness and desire to implement new and current technologies in both distance and onsite educational environments
- Demonstrated innovation, organization, problem solving, leadership, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills in areas related to professional practice
Other Qualifications:
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to facilitate travel to Graceland University worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes access to an airport with regular flights to Kansas City, MO, a valid driver’s license, and a personal or rental vehicle that is legally registered and insured
- Able to teach classes as scheduled
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills
