This is a full-time, 12-month position, reporting to the Vice President for Student Life. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and management of programs and services designed to enhance student success, including academic advising, career counseling and personal counseling. Master’s degree in student personnel with 5 years of experience in a collegiate environment with the proven ability to effectively interact with students and work collaboratively with faculty is required. The director will assess the community needs within a six-county area and, with the assistance of an Advisory Council, will develop and evaluate an organizational plan to address those needs. This will include recruiting and training volunteers, matching them to appropriate not-for-profit organizations, and recognizing their efforts. The position will also identify organizations with needs for volunteers, train those organizations in best volunteer practices, and encourage collaboration among organizations with similar community efforts. The center director will work closely with the director of the Graceland AmeriCorps program and with other state volunteer centers. The director will also develop projects and supervise volunteers for designated days of service, and will maintain records on volunteers and their hours served, the number of organizations served and the effectiveness of center programs. The director will have responsibility for internal functions of the center, including program management, the budget, the creation of required reports, and program evaluation.
Qualifications: A high school diploma (BA preferred) with at least three years of volunteer experience in not-for-profit organization. Strong written and oral communication skills and computer competencies in e-mail, internet and Microsoft Office. Ability to motivate potential volunteers and identify opportunities for volunteer service, to work independently and to develop excellent relations with community organizations. Driver’s license and good driving record required with willingness to travel and develop productive community relationships throughout a six-county area.
