Homecoming Experiences -An interview with JR Shaw, O.C., A.O.E.
Visionary Leader, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist

Donor JR Shaw ’52 talks about Graceland Homecoming 2012, when the $16 million Shaw Center expansion was revealed. The venue’s dedication was celebrated with a weekend full of music, including guest artists Canadian trumpet legend Jens Lindemann, the jazz talents of Wycliffe Gordon, Kansas City’s own Fountain City Brass Band and more. With explosive gala concerts, performances of the play Our Town directed by Hollywood actor Arliss Howard and an unforgettable fireworks spectacular, the weekend, made possible by the generosity of JR and his wife Carol, represents a new era for Graceland’s performing arts.
