If you are interested in understanding social behavior and social influences, you may be interested in a degree in Sociology. At Graceland, you can major in Sociology, or in one of our Sociology "concentration areas" - Criminology or Human Services.

The sociology curriculum explores aspects of social behavior including culture, social structure, socialization, social stratification, institutions and differentiation by race/ethnicity, gender, age and class. 

Sociology: Provides students with the background necessary for investigating and analyzing social behavior. Students are prepared for employment in a variety of fields as well as for graduate study.

Criminology: Includes coursework in analysis of law, criminology, and specific areas of the American justice system. The major is intended for students interested in a career in law enforcement, a variety of positions in the field of adult or juvenile corrections and court services, treatment facilities or private security.

Human Services: Gives students a solid background in the scientific study of social behavior. Students learn the theory and skills of related disciplines such as social welfare and psychology. This multi-disciplinary course of study and our internship program prepare students for human service careers.
