Welcome to Graceland University and the Athletic Training Major. The GU Athletic Training Major is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The GU Athletic Training Major has been recognized in national publications by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the Joint Review Committee for Athletic Training Education (JRC-AT) for its students’ professional competence and diverse student body. According to the JRC-AT, “the program has potential to be a model for athletic training education programs that are housed in a small liberal arts university.”
The caring and competent athletic training and instructional staff will work closely with the student to facilitate the development of the student’s knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes and behaviors. Students will undertake a rigorous curriculum focused on developing competent and caring athletic training professionals. Students will apply their knowledge and skills in the classroom and a variety of clinical settings. Athletic training courses will make up the student’s didactic education, while laboratories and athletic training internships will complete the student’s clinical education. However, additional external fieldwork experiences have been sought by many students, and are strongly encouraged.
Graceland University’s values of learning, wholeness, and community are echoed in the athletic training curriculum. In addition to students’ professional preparation for a career in athletic training it is our hope that, athletic training students will leave the Major with a deeper appreciation of themselves, their peers, and their new GU family.
