Success: Lexi Kroesen

Lexi Kroesen is a current student enrolled in Graceland University’s School of Nursing and pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She came to Graceland from a tiny high school in Independence, Missouri, where she graduated with only 12 other students. In high school, she was very involved in sports, student council, community outreach, science club and the arts. Learning of Graceland through others who attended the university and making a couple visits to campus, Lexi knew Graceland was where she wanted to pursue her secondary education.

She was attracted to the small class sizes and intimate setting. She expressed, “I fell in love with the beautiful campus and the unique community environment the housing system provided. I loved all the campus activities that were available to me, and that, since it was a small campus, I could be involved with a wide variety of them.” Graceland’s top tier-ranked nursing program was also a draw. Lexi was awarded a volleyball scholarship, presidential merit scholarship and won the Honors Scholarship at Academic Honors Day.

Lexi credits Graceland with providing the opportunity to pursue her passions in nursing. While attending the Lamoni campus, she also had the chance to continue her involvement in extra-curricular activities in several different campus organizations and athletics, such as House Council of Sariah House, COSA (Campus Organization for Student Activities) representative, ENACTUS, as a member of the women’s volleyball team, and holding a student worker position at the Memorial Student Center’s recreation hall.

She attributes Dr. Mary Shawgo, Associate Professor of Biology and Dr. Teri Foster, Associate Professor of Biology with a solid learning foundation and beneficial instruction preparing her for the nursing program while completing her general education studies on the Lamoni campus.

Lexi is already looking to her future. Now attending her nursing classes at the Independence campus, with a projected graduation date in December 2017, she plans to stay in the Kansas City area to be near family and friends upon completing her degree but hopes to participate in overseas medical missions, as well. She plans to someday complete her master’s degree, and Graceland is at the top of her list.
