Graceland University will host the 2014 Iowa Day of Percussion and first annual Graceland University Solo Percussion Competition, this Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The day will be sponsored by the Iowa Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, the largest professional organization for percussionists in the world. This event brings percussionists from across Iowa and surrounding states together to learn and share ideas and music.
This year the event will welcome guest artists from Texas, Missouri and Virginia, as well as Graceland University Director of Percussion Studies and Assistant Professor of Music, Adam Groh, and his colleagues from Iowa State University and the Des Moines Symphony.
The day will hold a series of clinics, beginning at 9 a.m. and a marimba competition for high school and college-aged students will be held in Carol Hall beginning at 9:30 a.m. A concert at 3:30 p.m. in Carol Hall will include ensembles from Graceland University, Iowa State University and Central College, while a concert at 6 p.m., also in Carol Hall, will include a performance by all guest artists, as well as Graceland University students, both of which are free and open for the public to attend.
