What is a Hoop House?
Graceland University’s Sustainability Office recently completed the installation of a Hoop House for the primary purpose of growing food for campus. Hoop houses, also commonly referred to as high tunnels, are covered, passive solar-heated structures, designed to extend the growing season and intensify production of crops. They provide a protected environment which can help grow higher quality produce at higher yields. The structure can be seen on the northeast corner of Graceland University’s Lamoni campus.
