Since 1989, the CAP Center has been integrated with career, academic, and personal counseling all available at the Center. Academic advising joined career counseling and personal counseling services the following year and adopted the acronym CAP to create the Career, Academic, and Personal Counseling Center located in Patroness Hall.
The CAP Center is one of the first contacts a newly accepted student makes with the college. We provide professional advisors for all entering students. During Early Orientation for New Students in the spring, over the summer, and up to the start of fall classes, new students come to the CAP Center to choose their first semester classes. Some advising is also done by phone, e-mail, or U.S. mail.
As Fall classes start, a specific CAP Center staff member is assigned as their adviser. Academic advisors collaborate with Innovative Leadership instructors to provide support for new students during their first semester on campus. Students not attending Innovative Leadership are assigned to the advisers at the CAP Center.
At Career Services, Brittany Hamilton, Catharine Craig and Michele Maguire Beck share responsibilities for consultation, resume development, cover letters, and decision making in the job and internship search. Michele is primarily responsible for education placement.
Academic advisors ready to answer your questions are: Pat Hoffman and Celeste Jones. Personal Counseling is available from Charlee Redick. Rebekah Stuva manages the main office, maintains job search credential files, and supervises student workers.
The total intake model for academic advising combined with integrated service provides "one-stop shopping" for our students and has played a successful part in Graceland's retention efforts.
