Coming back to Graceland was coming home. My wife Vikki (Updike) and sons Joel and Michael are all loyal Graceland alums. In 2001, I resigned as director of the State Historical Society of Iowa, and we moved here from Ames, Iowa. My current assignment as Director of Community Relations keeps me in touch with historical, educational and church networks throughout the state, and I enjoy developing and expanding relationships for Graceland.

I also get to teach and write. I work with the Honors Seminar every fall and offer an Iowa history course through Graceland's distance-learning program. I also keep busy promoting Graceland's outstanding fine arts programs to the campus and to the surrounding area.

Graceland has been and continues to be an important part of our family's life. Working here with the Graceland community has been a dynamic and rewarding experience.
