Theatre

The Department of Theatre in the Division of Fine Arts at Graceland University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre as well as a Theatre minor. Theatre students develop creative skills, practice critical thinking and problem solving, and develop personal discipline through coursework and production. The comprehensive curriculum provides a foundation of introductory courses in Theatre, Acting, Stagecraft, and Script Analysis. Students may then pursue their interests in a variety of areas within the discipline.

Theatre productions are an integral part of the major, where theory is put into practice. The Department of Theatre produces three faculty-directed shows per year, including an annual musical. A fourth production may be mounted by the Directing class (Festival of One-Acts) or by a senior in fulfillment of Capstone requirements.

Within the Theatre major, students may focus on different areas depending on their talents and interests.

In addition to the core Theatre sequence, performance students complete the Acting sequence. The Capstone project in Performance consists of either a major role in a faculty-led production or a solo performance directed by faculty.

In addition to the core Theatre sequence, directing students study Stage Management and Playwriting and complete the Directing sequence. For the Capstone project in Directing, the student will direct a selected show in the Studio Theatre during their final semester.

In addition to the core Theatre sequence, students complete an additional Technology/Design sequence. For the Capstone project in Theatre Design, the student will design in two different areas on two faculty-led productions.

In addition to the core Theatre sequence, students complete an additional Theatre Technology course, as well as Stage Management. For the Capstone project in Theatre Technology, the student will serve in technical leadership positions on two faculty-led productions.
