History of Psychology 101, a book written by Graceland University Professor of Psychology David Devonis and currently in use in the Graceland University History of Psychology course, has been awarded the American Library Association’s Outstanding Academic Title of 2014.

According to Springer Publishing Company, the company that published the book by Devonis, “the book presents a concise, accessible overview of the modern history of psychology, focusing on making historical information relevant to psychological practice today.”

Devonis said of this recognition, “I see history as like a road map to the past, which is always there for us to explore, and from which we can always return to the present with whatever we find useful on our travels. My goal in writing this book was to provide a road map to make the past 80 years of psychology accessible for today’s psychologists, clinical, applied, and experimental alike, and I am thrilled that Choice has recognized this effort.”

Nancy Hale, Editorial Director of Social Sciences at Springer Publishing Company, noted “With only three percent of titles submitted to Choice making the cut for the OAT (Outstanding Academic Title) list, we are truly honored that this title has been selected. Dr. Devonis has done an outstanding job of making the history of psychology come alive for contemporary readers, illuminating not just how psychological theories developed but how they have been applied and practiced.”

History of Psychology 101 is available from Springer Publishing’s website, as well as on Amazon and Kindle.
