Capital Equipment versus Inventory Equipment

Capital Equipment versus Inventory Equipment
Capital Equipment means an individual unit that is $1,000 or higher, and has a multi-year life. These items should be charged to the Capital Equipment object code 6900. In rare cases, where the department and the Director of Accounting Services determine that a multi-year useful life is not feasible, these items will be treated as Inventory Equipment.

Inventory equipment means an individual unit that is less that $1,000, and is not a consumable supply (such as paper, toner, etc.) Normally, Inventory Equipment would cover furniture, athletic fixtures, vacuum cleaners, etc.
