      • Successfully designed and synthesized 2A selective adrenergic agonists based upon a heterocyclic backbone.
      • Synthesized and identified a structurally novel local anesthetic.
      • Utilized reverse and straight phase HPLC, MPLC and chromatotron for the purification of new products.
      • Utilized UV, IR, and NMR for identification of new products.
      • Directed the research of a masters level scientist (1991-1992).

    • Postdoctoral Research, under direction of Professor Robert P. Hanzlik Successfully performed the asymmetric synthesis of R and S13C and D2 labeled p-nitrostyreneoxide.
    • Developed a winning combination for the analysis of chiral compounds utilizing NMR chiral shift reagents and Mosher esters. Measured the kinetic isotope effects of labeled p-nitrostyreneoxide.
    • Conducted the isolation and purification of microsomal epoxide hydrase.
    • Determined the isotopic enrichment of labeled molecules by GC/MS.
    • Performed purification of labeled molecules with straight and reverse phase HPLC techniques.

    • Postdoctoral Research, under direction of Professor George A. Kraus
    • Developed a new method for the synthesis of quinone-containing polyaromatic HIV inhibitors.
    • Achieved the intramolecular cyclization of indole and pyrrolidine containing dienes in approaches to strychnine and lyngbyatoxin.

    • Doctoral Research, under direction of Professor Paul B. Hopkins
    • Successfully synthesized an advanced model for Betaenones and Stemphyloxin.Natural products with highly substituted trans-decalin ring systems with 8 chiral centers.
    • Developed and successfully implemented a practical large-scale oxidation of hydroquinones to benzoquinones.
    • Synthesized novel amino acids via intramolecular selenium rearrangements.
