Businesses Promoting and Selling Alcohol and Tobacco (B9)
SUBJECT:
Businesses Promoting and Selling Alcohol and Tobacco
PURPOSE:
To delineate a policy on Graceland’s response to businesses who advertise and promote the use of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
POLICY:
Graceland University will not advertise for, nor except donations from, any business with “Bar” as part of their name and/or when forty percent or more of their gross revenue is a result of sales and/or distribution of alcohol and/or tobacco products. RATIONALE:
The promotion of alcohol and/or tobacco is in conflict with the values of Graceland University to provide an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free environment. PROCEDURE:
When it is unclear whether to accept requests to advertise for or to receive donations from businesses which sell alcohol and/or tobacco products, the burden of proof is on the business to demonstrate that less than forty percent of their gross revenue is a result of sales that do not include alcohol and/or tobacco products. The Dean of Student’s Office is responsible for making the final determination.
