Guidelines for Faculty Research/Scholarly/Creative Activities

POLICY:
Full-time faculty who have graduate-level teaching responsibilities are eligible for up to 6 hours of assigned time per year for the purpose of conducting research, or participating in scholarly/creative or professional practice activities. Faculty proposals for this release time must be submitted by November 1 to the appropriate Division Program Chair who will forward the proposal with recommendations to the Dean of Faculty.

PROCEDURE:
A. Proposals will be accepted in each of the following areas:

1. Research – Faculty applying for research hours will submit a proposal documenting the planned research along with a projected time line for completion of specific portions of the research. The amount of release time requested is based on the magnitude and merit of the research.
   
   
2. Practice – Faculty who apply for practice release time will follow the formula that equates 4 hours of clinical practice per week for each semester hour of release time. For example, proposals for 3 sh per year would involve completing 6 hours of clinical practice per week (1.5 per semester hours x 4 hours = 6 hours).
   
   
3. Grant Writing – Faculty preparing a grant application for research or the Master’s Program may apply for release time. Acceptable grant applications would include requests for funding from national groups such as Department of Education, Division of Nursing, National Science Foundation, and National Institute of Nursing Research.

B. Requirements for proposals:

1. All proposals must include the following:
a. Statement of proposed practice, research activity, or grant
b. Rationale for selected activity
c. Time line for completion of the activity
d. Expected Outcomes
