Article A
The name of this organization shall be the Graceland University Parents’* Association.
The mission of the Graceland University Parents’ Association is to provide support, accurate information and a sense of community to enhance quality of parent-student-university experiences.
The objective of the Graceland University Parents’ Association is to serve Graceland University in an affirmative manner as loyal representatives on matters between parents, students, and the University. These include communicating between (and in conjunction with) present and prospective parents and students and the University such information and questions which occur in the course of academic planning, financial support, and co-curricular activities of the University.
The membership of the association shall consist of parents of present or past Graceland University students and any interested faculty or staff member of Graceland University.
The annual dues of the association shall be $20 per parent(s) or family.
The officers of the association shall be: Co-Presidents, Secretary, Co-treasurers, and immediate Past President(s).
The Executive Committee shall be the officers of the Association plus two student representatives appointed by the Graceland Student Government president and two Graceland representatives appointed by the president of Graceland University.
The officers of the association shall be elected for a term of one year at the spring meeting by those members who are present and voting. Newly elected officers shall assume office on July 1 of the year they are elected.
The executive committee shall generate a slate of nominated officers to present at the spring meeting of the association. Efforts will be made to maintain a balance of distribution between the anticipated years of a students’ graduation. Efforts will also be made to have representation from as many geographic areas as possible.
One of the co-presidents shall preside at all meetings of the executive committee and the Parents’ Association.
The secretary shall record and transcribe the records of all meetings and handle all correspondence.
The co-treasurers shall work within normal university systems for all financial matters and provide financial reports at association meetings and upon request of co-presidents.
The Parents’ Association shall meet at least twice each year and/or at times determined by the executive committee. The fall meeting of the Parents Association is typically held during the fall homecoming weekend.
The Executive Committee shall convene at the request of the co-president(s) as well as at all meetings of the Parents’ Association.
Amendments to these by-laws shall be considered when the suggested amendment is submitted in written form to the executive committee.
Amendments must be approved by a majority ballot of those present and voting at any meeting of the Parents’ Association.
