Previous Experience
  • Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for University of Rhode Island; Preceptor for Advanced Community Clinical Clerkship, PHP 590. University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Kingston, RI. I was responsible for on-site education, training, and assessment of Pharmacy Students during their clinical rotation at my site. I evaluated and instructed students in their professionalism, communication skills, knowledge base, and clinical judgment skills through written assignments, research projects, and presentations.
  • Certified Diabetes Outpatient Educator (C.D.O.E.), through the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Department of Health. I was affiliated as an independent instructor with Visiting Nurses of Portsmouth and Newport County. As a Diabetes educator, I team-taught patients, nurses, and other health care professionals on the physiology, treatment, and progression of the disease state. I also individually instructed diabetic patients about their medications, reviewed patient case files, and made recommendations to the primary health care provider on alternative treatment regimens.
  • Member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (P&T) and the Medication Errors Committee of Newport County Community Mental Health Center (NCCMHC). Conducted education of Mental Health Staff of NCCMHC with respect to current trends in therapeutic regimens, adverse effects, and medication errors. Performed research for the Center on pharmaceutical regimens being developed for the treatment of patients, on traditional treatment standards, and the efficacy of unorthodox treatments for specific patients. Based on the biochemical effects of the drugs in patients, I made recommendations on policies and procedures to be followed by the clinic. This P&T Committee was updating Policy & Procedure Manual in accordance with JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) standards; Phased publication began Spring 2003.
