In a world of rapid communication, a "foreign" language is no longer a luxury, but a necessity for global understanding. Because Spanish is important not only in international affairs but also in our own bilingual culture, it is imperative that today's student takes advantage of the opportunities skill that Spanish provides. Related skills developed by learning a second language such as Spanish include the abilities to think logically and make analogies; to adjust to new environments; to organize and memorize detailed information; to increase one's background of general knowledge; to comprehend and command grammar and vocabulary of a second language in addition to one's primary language; to improve one's listening, clarifying, and responding skills; and to become proficient overall in reading, speaking and writing.
