The Liberal Studies Program is designed to meet the needs of two major types of students:
1) Students who desire to structure their own program of courses from among those available on our campus, with perhaps some course work from other colleges; and
2) other students, many of whom are former Graceland students, who desire to graduate with a degree from the university by structuring a valid program of accredited course work, experiential learning, non-accredited study such as seminars, workshops, and individualized classes. These latter students often are not able to return to campus for sustained course work but may still be able to work out a program that will earn them a B.A. degree in Liberal Studies.
The program offers two options for course work:
1) An area of concentration in a subject area not offered as a major by the institution. This area of concentration should include 30-35 s.h. in a closely related field or if a cross-discipline approach is used, 50-60 s.h. in two or more academic areas.
2) A general studies option, which required 36 s.h. of credit identified from five pre-determined academic areas.
The design of this program allows students to have involvement and learning experiences with a wide variety of faculty members on the campus. By designing a program that involves various academic areas, students receive instruction and guidance from many of Graceland's outstanding professors.
