Education Endorsements

Accredited by the Iowa Department of Education and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, Graceland's teacher education has been cited for excellence in providing a technology emphasis, psychological and sociological foundations, and learning theory. Beginning in the sophomore year, course work is balanced by extensive field experiences in both public and private schools.

Education Endorsements

Elementary Education Students receiving an elementary education endorsement receive K-6 licensure. In addition to K-6 licensure, students receive additional licensure for their concentration area. Available areas of endorsement for elementary education students include:

Mild/Moderate Special Education
Social Science: Social Studies
Social Science: History
Art
English/Language Arts
Foreign Language(Spanish)

Students receiving secondary education licensure must have a major in one of the following subjects:

Second endorsements may be added in:

World History

Physics
Psychology

In addition, students completing a secondary endorsement may receive elementary endorsements in:

If students earn an endorsement in one of the above designated teaching areas, a second endorsement may be added in Middle School or Multicategorical 7-12.


In partnership with Indian Hills Community College (Centerville, Iowa) and North Central Missouri College (Trenton, Missouri), Graceland University offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. This program is also offered on Graceland's Independence Campus. Students wishing to enroll in this program should be making significant progress in completing an Associate's degree from any community college. With the transfer of an Associate's degree, the completion of the elementary education degree requires two years with a reading endorsement and two and one-half to three years with a mild/moderate special education endorsement.

Licensure

All students who successfully complete their elected program will be eligible for Iowa teacher licensure. Graceland's program and licensure requirements are accredited by the Iowa Department of Education and by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
