Writing Tutors

Second floor of Zimmerman (room 207) is where you sign up for a writing tutor. These tutors will provide assistance in brainstorming for ideas about a topic, revising a rough draft of your paper, or helping you edit and proofread your own work. This service is individualized, free, and completely confidential.

Who Are Our Writing Tutors?

Our writing Tutors are program participants who have been recommended by their writing instructors, have attended a writing tutor workshop, and who are strong writers and talented readers who are willing to respond to your writing seriously and thoughtfully.

How Can I See a Writing Tutor?

By appointment: Come by 207 Zimmermann Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is best to make an appointment as soon as possible after a writing assignment is given.

Your writing tutor can help you:

• Understand your writing assignment
• Brainstorm topics for papers
• Organize your thoughts
• Outline your ideas
• Formulate a thesis statement
• Develop your argument with appropriate evidence and examples
• Anticipate problems readers are likely to encounter in your writing
• Learn to edit your prose

But your writing tutor cannot:

• Provide a thesis statement for you
• Write parts of your paper for you
• Proofread your paper line by line
• Guarantee what grade you will receive
