CHC: definition and accomplishments

Council of House Chaplains - Brittany Longsdorf
We’d like for Chaplains to be more present on their house, so that people feel very comfortable coming to them with struggles or issues in their lives. We will also focus on creating quality services where people experience genuine worship and feel motivated to invite others to join them.

As Council of House Chaplains President, Brittany serves as a link between the Campus Ministries Team and the students. She also acts as a counselor and mentor to the Chaplains as they seek to provide ministry on their houses and for the general campus community. This includes supporting house devotions, helping plan Wednesday Evening Prayer and Testimony services, practicing listening and conflict-resolution skills, and promoting the ideas of Chaplains being a felt presence in the dorms and available for anyone who needs to talk. Working with the Campus Ministries’ yearly theme of “Come & Go,” CHC promotes diversity and encourages everyone to deepen their faith journey and practice.

CHC is engaged in several new ventures this year. For the first time, Chaplains held a retreat where they learned active listening, how to craft meaningful devotions, and discussing real-life situations they may confront in their roles. We have also partnered with COSA and IM’s to sponsor Open Gyms, a time where students can play basketball, volleyball, and other sports on a Friday evening in the safe and comfortable environment of the Graceland gym. Our first one was a resounding success, with over 200 people attending! We look forward to even better turnouts in the months to come.
