Kate Neill Solidifies Future With Early Volleyball Signing
July 23, 2007
Lamoni, IA- Making your college decision can be a difficult one for many but Kate Neil seems to have made her decision early by becoming the first official signing for the Graceland University women’s volleyball team for 2008.
A 5’4” setter from Independence, Missouri, and a product of Center Place Restoration School, Neill will begin attending classes at Graceland and suit up for the Stew McDole led Yellowjackets in the fall of 2008.
Participating mostly in the Junior Varsity program during her early years of high school volleyball, Neill was named the MVP of her team as well as being honored with the “Best Setter” award and a member of the All-Tournament team. Perhaps her most impressive accolade was her award of the “Christian Attitude” award as a member of the varsity squad.

Signing gifted athletes is a tradition for the Graceland women’s volleyball squad which has been led by McDole for the past 25 seasons. He feels as if he has acquired yet another valuable piece to the future of GU volleyball.
“Kate becomes only the second player in recent Graceland Volleyball history to formally commit a year ahead,” said McDole about Neill’s recent signing. “Kate is a setter who brings good technique and intelligence to the floor. She has high aspirations and will be a sponge on and off the court. It is exciting for her to put Graceland in her future now. I am expecting that she will make many decisions that will further her preparation for college ball. We are looking forward to welcoming her into the Yellowjacket volleyball fold next fall.”
While competing hard on the volleyball court as well as the soccer field during her time in the prep ranks, Neill also found time to excel in the classroom as she has proven to be an excellent student while playing for the Eagles. With a GPA of 4.0 during her time at CRPS, Neill earned honor roll status as well as the distinguished Soaring Eagle and Liahona Award for her superb grade point average in the classroom.
In addition to her athletic involvement and steady work in the classroom, Neill also participated her school’s National Honor Society, concert choir, and the student council. She also took time out to volunteer with the Child Abuse Prevention Association in Independence.
With her college future now set, Neill plans to major in Biology and Health while at GU.
Kate is the daughter of Richard and Robin Neill.
