Elyce Lamphere Signing (7-22-07)

Lamoni, IA- Adding quality is much more important than adding quantity and the Graceland University women’s volleyball team appears to have added another quality piece to their 2007 roster with the addition of Elyce Lamphere.

Lamphere hails from Peoria, Arizona and comes to Graceland as a dangerous and powerful outside hitter. A recent graduate of Centennial High School, Lamphere has signed a national letter of intent to further her education and play volleyball for head coach Stew McDole beginning in the fall.

No stranger to on-court accolades, Lamphere’s performance for the Coyotes of CHS earned her 1st Team All-Conference selection as well as being named to the Arizona All-State Team honorable mention. As she continued to improve, Lamphere was named a 2nd Team All-Conference selection and her first year as a team captain during her junior campaign in 2005.

“Elyce is a physical outside hitter. In many ways she fits the prototype,” stated McDole, a veteran GU coach with over 700 career victories. “When I watch her club team she plays the “go to” role. They give her the opportunity in both the front and back row to attack. She is their outlet. They use her to pass. She plays good defense. In short she fits the outside hitter mold. At 5’10 she will be among our taller outsides and one who is aggressive and takes a healthy physical swing at the ball. I have seen her play all over the country as she has played for a club team that travels widely. All those experiences should pay off for her and Graceland Volleyball. “

An honor roll selection every semester during her time in the prep ranks, Lamphere is accustomed to balancing athletics and studies as she was also honored with the coveted Scholar-Athlete award.

With hopes of obtaining an Athletic Training degree while attending Graceland beginning in the fall, Lamphere joins a long list of impressive recruits slated to suit up for the Jacket’s squads in a few months.

Elyce is the daughter of Scott and Shelly Lamphere and the sister to Trent.
