Tara Shupe Signing (5-18-07)

Lamoni, IA- With winning being a tradition for the Graceland University women’s volleyball team, adding top-notch recruits is crucial in continuing that success on and off the court. Head coach Stew McDole feels he has added another important piece for years to come in the signing of Tara Shupe to a national letter of intent.

A 5’7” outside-hitter from Independence, Missouri, Shupe comes from a solid volleyball program at William Chrisman High School. A versatile on-court performer, Shupe has delivered as both a libero and a strong outside-hitter for the Bear’s volleyball team.

A team captain for her senior season, Shupe is no stranger to athletic accolades as she was named 1st-team All-District during her senior campaign as well as a 2nd-team All-Conference selection.

An active all-around student while attending WCHS, Shupe also was involved with the Spanish Club, A.C.E., as well as the school’s band program. She also ran track during her high school career in addition to her dedication to volleyball.

Coach McDole is obviously excited to add Shupe’s name to his roster of talented players.

“She is aggressive and she strikes you as a great friend. Both fit the Graceland model well. Her aggressive style is a match to the typical Yellowjacket team. She is a solid platform player, a good jumper and an aggressive attacker. The friend side of Tara is also a match. Our people play because they love the game and they enjoy their teammates. She will make a lot of new volleyball friends. I expect that we will all be glad that she is a part of Graceland volleyball.”

While not yet decided on a major, Tara is very excited about her opportunity to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level. “I’ve never been so excited to play volleyball as I am now,” said Shupe. “Unlike some of the other schools I visited, the players and coaches at Graceland made me feel so welcome here, which makes me very excited to become apart of the Graceland experience and the volleyball program,” continued Shupe.

Tara is the daughter of Larry and Lisa Shupe and the sister to Eric, Tyler, and Ryan.
