Matt Calcagni enters his first season with the Graceland University baseball team this year as he awaits the start of his first professional playing season in Italy. A team Co-MVP in 2006, Calcagni holds 8 school records.
A native of Brampton, Ontario, Calcagni transferred in to Graceland for his sophomore year from Division I High Point University and was a three year starter amassing sole possession or a share of 8 school records. At-bats in a game (6), Home Runs in a game (3), RBI's in a game (7), Hit by Pitches in a game (3), RBI's in a season (47), Assists by an Infielder in a season (117) and the longest hitting streak (13 games).
Matt will assist the Jackets coaching staff with the Infielders and Hitting. "Matt was a key player to the strength of our defense throughout his career. He will bring a great work ethic and no nonsense attitude to our staff."
Over his playing career, Matt hit .361 with 38 doubles, 24 Home Runs, 113 RBI's while stealing 25 of 27 bases and fielding at .930 clip. Matt was also a part of the Jackets finishing in the top 25 in the nation in fielding percentage twice over his career, (2005, 2007).
